Faced with the problem of Lack of communication can lead grave medical errors which have the potential to cause severe injury or unexpected patient death, the study was guided by the following objectives; To find out if there is effective communication between health information officers and patients in the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.
Concerning methodology, the study employed descriptive and explanatory design, questionnaires in addition to library research were applied in order to collect data. Primary and secondary data sources were used and data was analyzed using statistical package which was presented in frequency tables and percentage. The study findings revealed there is no adequate communication between health care workers and patients and this gap causes more medical errors. Key recommendations from the study are; proper communication channels should be established between health care workers and patients, a friendly and cordial environment must be created in hospitals
